Luxury watchmaker releases US$580,000 “Fast & Furious" Twin Turbo timepiece - Driving

Watchmaker Jacob & Co has released a luxury timepiece inspired by the Fast & Furious franchise.

Only nine of the timepieces are being made, one for each of the F&F films, not counting Hobbs and Shaw

Jacob & Co. didn’t reinvent the timepiece in the name of Vin Diesel et al, rather added some motoring flare to their existing Twin Turbo Furious

For the watch geeks among us, here are some specs: The Fast & Furious Twin Turbo boasts twin triple-axis tourbillons, a decimal minute repeater, a pit board time calculator, and a power reserve indicator fashioned like a fuel gauge, all ticking away thanks to an 832-piece JCFM05 manual wound movement. The watch is set in a black carbon case measuring 57mm by 52mm and fitted with a stainless steel bezel.

Fast & Furious uses innovation and new technologies to disrupt the action movie space,” said Jacob Arabo, founder of Jacob & Co. “We do the same thing with Swiss watchmaking and this sort of disruption through innovation continues to be our goal.”

The Fast & Furious features on the watch include an image of a “starting girl” standing before two of the first film’s most iconic cars, Dom’s 1970 Dodge Charger and Brian’s Toyota Supra, with the franchise’s name/logo set above her.

Does any of it mean that the watch — which costs a mere US$580,000 — will tell time better than or even as good as your $300 smartphone? No it doesn’t. But if you’re buying a half-a-million-dollar watch, you’re probably not in much of a rush anyway.

Adblock test (Why?)
