Maggie Mac Neil isn’t the only local swimmer putting up fast times at the Canadian Olympic trials this week in Toronto.
Fellow London Aquatic Club members Carter Buck and Kathryn Ivanov clocked club records in the 100-metre backstroke and 100-metre breaststroke in the opening two days of the meet. Buck went 57.15 seconds and will swim the 200 back Wednesday, while Ivanov went one minute, 9.58 for a seventh-place finish.
She will compete in the 200 breaststroke Tuesday. Both are taking part in their first Olympic trials.
The London club has eight swimmers at the pre-Tokyo event, including 100-metre butterfly world champ Mac Neil, Shona Branton, Jack Haycock, David Hickey, Charis Huddle and Brett Liem.
Mac Neil, previously pre-selected for the Games, opened the meet with a 56.19 effort to win the 100-metre butterfly.
The trials continue until Wednesday.
