Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs’ emotional duet of “Fast Car” at the 2024 Grammy Awards brought many viewers to tears on Sunday night.
It also had many viewers Googling, “Where did Tracy get that chic as hell black button down with the perfect touch of sparkle and how does she look the same as she did when I used to play her CD over and over again in 1988?”
We know the answer to the first question (we’re still working on the second). The singer-songwriter’s cotton poplin button-down with beaded embroidery is custom version of this $1,050 Prada shirt. Her black brushed leather Chelsea boots are also by the brand.
On Sunday, Chapman’s stylist, Candice Lambert McAndrews, posted a clip of Chapman’s performance along with the caption, “I had the honor of working with Tracy Chapman for this years Grammys. It was such an honor. She is wonderful!”
The performance was prefaced with Combs, 33, recalling his memories of listening to Chapman's original version of "Fast Car." He explained the hit was his "favorite song before I even knew what a favorite song was."
The country singer and Chapman, 59, then took the stage to perform their own rendition of Chapman’s 1988 hit song during the ceremony at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The televised performance marked Chapman's first since singing on Late Night with Seth Myers in 2020. She last toured in 2009.
Taylor Swift and Brandi Carlile were seen standing during the performance and the entire audience gave the pair a standing ovation at the conclusion of the song.
Their duet follows Combs’ chart-topping cover of the hit song, released more than three decades after its debut. His cover also received a nomination for best country solo performance at this year's ceremony.
