Fire services received a number of 911 calls at about 1:24 p.m.

Callers reported black smoke and flames coming from a balcony on the 18th floor of a highrise in the 1000 block of Bank Street.

The first OFS vehicle arrived in three minutes and confirmed black smoke coming from one of the top floors.

Firefighters quickly made their way to the 18th floor and began extinguishing the fire on the balcony of one of the units. The fire was declared under control at 13:42.

Crews completed two searches of the unit and confirmed there were no occupants inside.

High pressured fans were used to ventilate all the residual smoke out of the structure.

A fire investigator has been dispatched to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
