Content studio and streamer FilmRise has struck a deal with LG Electronics’ AVOD/FAST platform LG Channels+ which will expand its global footprint.
FilmRise has around 40 FAST channels active in the US, but the deal with LG Channels+ will expand its coverage in that market while also bringing new services to the UK, Ireland and the Nordics. The channels will be built around popular FilmRise library titles such as Forensic Files, Unsolved Mysteries and Hell’s Kitchen.
FilmRise and LG have a pre-existing FAST relationship which FilmRise CEO Danny Fisher said has been beneficial for both parties: “Our partnership with LG Electronics has proven to be incredibly fruitful and we are thrilled to add these FAST Channels for LG consumers to enjoy. This deal represents our aggressive initiative in expanding our footprint into new territories through collaborations with connected devices.”
Other FilmRise FAST channels launching on LG’s platform include one based around Canadian series Heartland. There are also three free movie channels with programming tailored to match each market’s audience.
Samsung has arguably been the most active TV set manufacturer when it comes to build out its smart TV streaming capability. But LG is also expanding aggressively, and now has around 350 FAST channels. LG also recently introduced a new version of its webOS operating system which allows third party manufacturers that license the system to access the LG channel ecosystem (alongside other popular apps).
This story has been amended from an earlier version whose headline incorrectly identified Samsung as FilmRise’s partner for this agreement.
