IndyCar: 2021 Indy 500 – Live Fast Nine Shootout qualifying updates - Beyond the Flag

Follow along with our live updates of IndyCar’s Fast Nine Shootout for the 105th running of the Indy 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Following Saturday’s qualifying session for the 105th running of the Indy 500, 30 of the 35 IndyCar drivers on the entry list for the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” ended up in pretty solid positions — some, of course, better than others.

The drivers who finished the session from 10th through 30th place locked themselves into the 33-car field for this 200-lap race around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in Speedway, Indiana and do not need to make another four-lap qualifying run today.

The drivers who finished the session in the top nine locked themselves into the top nine, somewhere inside the first three rows.

All nine of those drivers are now set to make one additional qualifying run in the Fast Nine Shootout to attempt to take the pole position.

The Bump Day qualifying session led off today’s activities, leaving two of the five drivers who finished yesterday’s session outside of the top 30 completely out of the 33-car field while the other three drivers locked themselves into the field on the 11th and final row. So now it’s time to go back to the front of the field and finish off the process of setting this year’s field of 33.

So who will take the pole position for the 105th running of the Indy 500, and how will the rest of the first three rows of the grid shape out? Follow along with our live qualifying updates of the Fast Nine Shootout to find out.

NOTE: Initial qualifying order was determined via the inverse order of yesterday’s top nine. If accessing on AMP, click here for live updates.
